The Old Animal Hospital Arlington Heights Animal Hospital was opened in 1946 by Drs. Prasnikar and Lynn. At that time Arlington Heights and the surrounding area had a large farming community, and large animals were a major part of the practice. The small building at the corner of Golf and Arlington Heights Road (State Road, then) had originally been an auto repair garage/wayfarer tavern. Once converted, it was more than adequate to meet their small-animal needs: much of their "day" was out on farm calls anyway. As the area grew and changed, so did the practice, and the large-animal portion grew smaller and smaller. It no longer exists.
Drs.
Camp and Sefcik were working together at another clinic for five
years. They purchased the Arlington Heights Animal Hospital when
it was located at the southwest intersection of Golf and Arlington
Heights Roads in April of 1978. At that time Dr. Camp, Dr. Sefcik,
another part-time veterinarian, and a small group of employees, ran
the very family-like business. The practice continued to grow, and
we knew we needed to do something about our physical plant, but,
reluctant to change, didn't. Then the State of Illinois "took" one-third
of our property for road widening. This finally forced us to move.
In November of 1993 the animal hospital moved to its current building
at 412 W. Algonquin Road: a considerably bigger building. When we
look back, we wonder how we were able to do so much good in such
a terribly cramped old building. That is a true reflection on the
quality of our people.
With continued community support, Arlington Heights Animal Hospital will continue to provide excellent veterinary care far into the future. It is up to us to maintain the standards we've set.

The state took 1/3 of our property to widen both Golf and Arlington Heights roads. Impossible for us to remain in business. This shows the bite it took on one of the two sides. |
